The Learning Environment

As visitors enter The Russell School grounds they are immediately struck by the extensive outdoor facilities that are on offer and the richness of our green space. The children at The Russell School are extremely fortunate to have such varied opportunities for outdoor learning.

We are able to offer our children extensive playing fields and playgrounds as our site covers more than three acres. We have a well-developed Environmental Area with two natural ponds, a variety of habitats for wildlife, a thriving allotment and an outdoor classroom.

Within each building, our classrooms are light and airy with generous open aspects. The staff work hard to ensure that our displays celebrate achievement and promote learning. Each classroom provides easy access to an outside space with all years in the Early Years and Key Stage One benefiting from covered learning areas. We have two large halls with gymnastics equipment and a full stage and sound system for Key Stage Two. We also have three attractive and well stocked libraries.

The entire school community works hard to provide the very best learning environment for our children – new projects and ideas, such as growing our own wheat for bread and keeping chickens, are always being explored to make the school an even better place to learn, play and grow.
