Year 4

Welcome to Year Four

Year Four learn through an exciting range of projects to develop their skills and knowledge.

Year Four is a key part of Lower Key Stage Two. The children work hard to develop the skills and knowledge to prepare them for the final two years of primary school, Years Five and Six, which form Upper Key Stage Two.

Often the highlight for Year Four is ‘The Sleepover’ where the children get the chance to stay overnight in the school hall and have breakfast at school the next morning. Year Four are also in charge of hosting The Harvest Tea Party for the elderly residents in our school community. The children always put on a great show for them to watch. 

Year Four's exciting Imaginative Learning Projects are:



Mighty mountains peak above the morning mists. Discover how these giants are formed, as a fold or a block, a dome or a plateau. Follow the water cycle’s course from peak to valley and meet the exceptional tribes of the Himalayas.




A poison, a mixture, an aromatic brew, a vapour, a liquid or sticky goo. Welcome to the amazing world of potions and their properties… use what you know about materials and their properties to create incredible potions in Professor Hazard’s Potions class.



I am warrior! I am strong, brave and powerful. Draw your sword, wield your axe and challenge me if you dare. Invade and attack, Romans versus Celts. Discover warring Britain and find out what the Romans did for us. Get ready for Gladiator School – learn alongside brave soldiers of the Colosseum. 



These are troubled times and there is danger afoot. A much-loved king is dead and a French Duke has staked a claim for our kingdom. Discover a changing England, protected by castles and ruled by knights. Use the Bayeux Tapestry to explore events. Design a castle – are you ready for invasion?


Investigate the busy world inside your body! Follow a tasty morsel as it makes its way through your digestive system. Do beans really have power? Work scientifically to figure this out. Make a working model of the digestive system –use it to persuade others to eat healthily.



Grab your wetsuit – we’re going deep into an underwater world of incredible coral and mysterious sea creatures. Learn about life in the ocean, what do real divers get up to below the surface? Make a model deep-sea submarine to travel the deepest, darkest places on Earth. Make sure you test it first!
