At The Russell School, our Nursery provides a warm, nurturing and stimulating start to school life.

Children learn through purposeful play, exploration and carefully planned experiences, both indoors and outdoors. We encourage curiosity, creativity, communication and independence, while helping children to develop the social and emotional skills they need to feel confident, happy and ready to learn.

Our Nursery environment offers a wide range of opportunities for children to investigate, create, build, imagine, read, talk, move and play together. Children are supported to develop important early skills, from mark making and early number awareness to sharing, turn-taking, managing their belongings and becoming increasingly independent.

Outdoor learning is an important part of our provision. Children have regular opportunities to explore our natural environment, take appropriate risks, develop their physical skills and extend their learning beyond the classroom.

We work closely with Reception to ensure children experience a positive and well-supported transition into the next stage of their learning.

Above all, we want Nursery to be a place where children feel safe, valued and excited to discover more about themselves and the world around them.
