    The Russell School

Design and Technology (DT) is a creative, skills-based subject in which our children enthusiastically participate. The children acquire and apply their skills, knowledge and understanding of food technology, structures, mechanisms and textiles.

At The Russell School, design and technology provides the opportunity for our children to become creative problem solvers, both as individuals and as members of a team. Design and technology is taught through our Imaginative Learning Projects and innovative, inclusive curriculum design. Our children look for needs, wants and opportunities and respond to them by developing a range of design ideas for making products and systems. They also learn to understand and apply the principles of nutrition as they learn how to cook.

In their designing and making, children will combine practical skills with an understanding of aesthetics and function. They will reflect, critique, test and evaluate their creative process and their final products. They will also learn to demonstrate our school values of reilience, confidence and cooperation by reflecting and critiquing the finished products of others.

Through design and technology, our children develop innovation and become discerning and informed users of products as they contribute to society as global citizens.
